BLESSadvanced Applebag, designed by Verena Michels, is based on a preexisting plastic bag by De Appel contemporary arts institution, located in Amsterdam. The object that stems from about a decade ago, has been appropriated and turned into an accessory by transforming its original shape. The asymmetrical shape connects the organic print with the recognizable form of the iconic plastic bag itself. The welded curve follows the round form of the ripe, red apple, printed on each side, which was a logo initially designed by Will Holder. Following the ban of single-use plastic bags, Applebag elevates the meaning of an everyday object from the near past to a collectable item.
